Coordinating Exterior Aesthetics with Campus Architecture

Safety and aesthetic design confirms the campus demand for durable and eye-pleasing products. Attractive amenities including waste receptacles that are not only durable and functional, but are also compatible with existing landscape and architectural buildings are a beautiful concept when designing or renovating a campus.

Coordinating benches and flower and tree planters that enhance the beauty and architecture of the college campus will provide a beautiful setting. Site furnishings in metal as well as precast concrete are available in many unique designs, colors and finishes. Precast concrete in smooth, sandblasted or exposed aggregates are beautiful when used in conjunction with metal furniture of many fabulous modern or traditional designs.

Colors of metal furniture can be a wonderful focal point, or incorporate school colors and/or logos right into the pieces of furniture for an appeal that will catch the eye of any visitor. Durable, powder-coated heavy gauge steel ensures unlimited styles of long lasting beautifully pleasing metal furniture that is both comfortable and heavy to deter vandalism. In today’s advanced workmanship, metal furniture, which is most often referred to as streetscape, has many new modern styles of design. Metal streetscape products are sandblasted down to the bare metal to achieve a better base to accept powder coatings. Powder coating is a sprayed on colored powder that adheres to the bare metal and then baked on at a temperature of about 350 degrees, or for a time period specified according to the thickness of the metal. Powder coated materials today are high quality and the quality demanded by professionals in all of today’s standards. Powder coating not only is available in just about any color, but when applied it seals all joints in the fabricated form. If you want the best, powder coating is the ideal choice.

Concrete site amenities can provide the ultimate in campus security with extreme weights and rebar reinforcement. Concrete products can be produced that will stop a vehicle. However, architectural concrete products today are not only heavy and durable--but attractive as well. With modern designs and today’s technology and equipment, unique textures and colors are possible.

A unique concept in much of today’s streetscape is to incorporate bollards that coordinate with the trash receptacles, benches, planters, etc. A bollard is typically an ornamental piece made of metal or concrete that serves either as a visual piece, or a protective perimeter barrier to communicate routes in parking lots and protect pedestrians in various restrictive areas, sidewalks, boundary markers or pathway markers. Lighted bollards are used in landscaping and provide a lit path for added security. Bollards can be permanently anchored to the foundation to achieve maximum security and stability.

As you can see, the end result in combining metal and concrete site amenities on a college campus serves as the ideal solution for adding beauty, serving a functional purpose and providing the utmost security for visitors, students and staff.

Many schools and universities want to display their school colors or incorporate their logos into the campus landscape. This can easily be done with concrete and metal furniture.

Two methods are available; plastic logos can be applied to many of the pieces or cast-in-place logos can be manufactured right into the backs of benches, trash receptacles, and planters. Manufacturers can hand paint the specified school colors.

In summary, you can harmonize with your campus architecture, protect your visitors, offer a beautiful place for unwanted trash and recyclables, light pathways, offer a place to sit and rest and even display your school logo and/or colors. College campuses that integrate matching streetscape products are highly regarded by students and visitors.
